Here's 10 Things To Fit In On A Family Day Trip To Scarborough!

It may surprise you, but you can fit awful lot in to a day trip to Scarborough! Here's an idea of how you can make the most of a day visit to the coast. This packs plenty in, but if you arrive by 10am, there's no reason why you can't do all of the following. Do check opening times of attractions etc beforehand as they will depend on the day and time of year you visit...
1) Hit the beach
We know it's a must and if you're bringing children, they'll be keen to hit the beach straight away, so why not? Getting there early means you can pick your ideal spot before it gets busier. And you're more likely to get a parking spot close to the beach too. We suggest the Underground Car Park under Spa Bridge and a short walk through the marine-themed tunnel straight onto South Bay Beach!
2) Visit the arcades
They are just over the road, and the kids will love the arcades. South Bay has plenty to choose from with some having extra attractions like bowling.
3) Lunch
Fish & Chips right? There's lots of options between the arcades and along the harbour: Papas, The Anchor, The Fish Pan, Lifeboat Fish & Chips. The list goes on!
4) A boat trip
We have the 'pirate ship' Hispaniola, an old lifeboat and the famous speed boats, all offering short trips from 5-20 minutes around the bay. See Scarborough's amazing topography from the sea and you might even spot Porpoise and Bottlenose Dolphins if you're lucky!
5) Walk around Marine Drive
It's a must on a visit to Scarborough. Walk from South Bay to North Bay, Scarborough's 'quieter bay'.
6) Peasholm Park Boating Lake
Time to put those feet up after the walk (for the kids at least). Hire a pedalo at Peasholm Park and do a couple of laps around the island. Keep an eye out for the model warships used in the famous naval warfare shows.
7) Get an ice cream or waffle
You can get ice creams at Peasholm Park or in Peasholm Gap near the beach at Creams and Peaches & Cream.
8) North Bay Railway Return Trip
It's late afternoon. Why not catch the last return trip on the historic North Bay Railway. Pass the Open Air Theatre and see North Bay from above. The train goes just over a mile to Scalby Mills by the Sealife Centre.
9) Open Top Bus back to South Bay
After an active day, relax and let the wind fly through your hair as you zip along the seafront in an open-top bus. Get off at The Spa, the very end of the route.
10) South Cliff Gardens Play Park
A brand new and free attraction, just a short stroll from The Spa is the new playground, built into the hillside close to Clock Cafe. Let the kids enjoy a play there before you head back to your car ready for the drive home.
