Scarborough Named As One Of The UK's Top Staycation Spots!

Classic British holiday spots are firmly back on the map. Last year, GoShorty asked Brits where the most beautiful views in the UK are, and this year, they've asked where you most want to go on a UK staycation / road trip. According to their research, the UK’s most popular staycation destinations this summer are:
- Lake District (13%)
- Brighton (12%)
- Bournemouth (11%)
- Southend (9%)
- Scarborough (7%)
- St Ives (7%)
- Blackpool (7%)
- Newquay (7%)
- Whitby (7%)
- Scottish Highlands (6%)
Why Nostalgia Is Driving The Staycation Boom
One of the biggest forces behind the rise in UK road trips is pure nostalgia. An impressive 93% of adults they surveyed said childhood summer holidays felt more fun than modern trips abroad.
Many of us are actively trying to recreate those simpler times, with classic seaside activities proving incredibly popular. The nostalgic experiences Brits look forward to most include:
- Walking on the beach (60%)
- Eating fish and chips by the sea (49%)
- Making family memories (43%)
- Snapping family photos (33%)
- Paddling in the sea (27%)
- Long countryside walks (27%)
- Eating a ’99’ Flake (25%)
- Family picnics (25%)
- Playing arcade slot machines (22%)
- Playing Board Games ( 22%)
More than half of adults (53%) also feel that today’s children miss out on these simple pleasures because they spend too much time looking at screens, while 61% agree that life simply felt less complicated in the past.
It’s also becoming harder to switch off. The study revealed that 38% of people struggle to disconnect from work emails when holidaying abroad.
