BOOKS BY THE BEACH 2022

Headliners - ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’ judge & master potter Keith Brymer Jones, bestselling novelists Lisa Jewell & Patrick Gale, actor Charlie Higson & former Home Secretary Alan Johnson appearing over this fabulous cultural weekend. TV presenter of ‘Coast’ Nicholas Crane & Archaeologist Dr Chloe Duckworth of ‘The Great British Dig’ rub shoulders with prize winning nature writer Anita Sethi. Worldwide disaster recovery expert Lucy Easthope is visiting too and don’t miss the leader of the 2018 Thai Cave rescue, John Volanthen - a real life hero. There’s something for everyone at Books by the Beach in June.

CROWDED HOUSE @ SCARBOROUGH OPEN AIR THEATRE - with special guest Liam Finn. Doors open at 6:00pm. Crowded House are heading out on their first European tour in more than 10 years – and it is coming to the Yorkshire coast next summer. Crowded House recently released their first new music in 10 years. New single Whatever You Want arrived with a brilliant video, directed by Nina Ljeti and starring Mac DeMarco. The band began recording a new studio album in in Los Angeles in January and from March, as the Covid-19 lockdown hit, they had to exchange new songs via online files.

KING PLEASURE & THE BISCUIT BOYS @ THE STEPHEN JOSEPH THEATRE, 7:30PM - With more than 6500 performances in 21 countries under their belt in their 30 years on the road, King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys are more than just the world’s greatest jump, jive and swing band – they’re an institution! In that time they have opened shows for B.B. King, Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, Ray Charles, and toured with the real Blues Brothers Band - the one from the movie.

DRAGON BOAT RACING @ NORTH YORKSHIRE WATERPARK, 11:00AM - Dragon boating is a fun-filled, adrenaline pumping, water sports activity. Teams compete in Dragon Boats, which are large canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragon's heads and tails. Crews of up to 16 people sit in pairs and paddle to compete in races over distances of around 250m. Each boat has a drummer beating time to keep the paddlers in unison, and a professional helmsperson in the stern to guide the boat. Originating in ancient China, Dragon Boat Racing is now the fastest growing water sport in the world and a favourite among charities and corporations for its fundraising and team-building benefits.
